In blues I sense that the singer has been there, done that. How often do song writers like you utilize their own experiences to portray their musical subjects? Is the joy, heartbreak, wanderlust real
i really don't think i could write anything worthwhile if i wasn't drawing from my own experiences, victories, and mistakes. even when i'm writing about a "fictional" character, i'm still drawing from some seed of experience that i can personally relate to to give the song resonance. otherwise the song isn't believable, and i think you can hear that flatness in the music, even if you can't put your finger on why.
how do you write your songs? how is it different when you are writing alone vs. collaborating with someone else?Alex Wong responded on 12/26/2010 Next question
When you write a song, do you evaluate in your own mind, it's merits for screen time, movies, reality shows, etc? Do you try to cast it?Alex Wong responded on 03/24/2011
